AJC Attacks Ignatiev, Congratulates Martillo

I'm Very Jealous
by Joachim Martillo (ThorsProvoni@aol.com)

On Oct. 10, the American Jewish Committee (AJC) called on Publisher Macmillan Reference USA to retract a chapter on Zionism in its Encyclopedia of Race and Racism.

According to the AJC,
Zionism has no place in a reference book on racism. Moreover, the chapter is filled with factual inaccuracies. In short, the publisher gave academia fodder to assault Israel.

In addition the AJC Executive Director David A. Harris claims:
The author of the Zionism chapter, Noel Ignatiev, has no track record of scholarship in Middle Eastern or Jewish studies, but his previous writings do show an inherent bias towards Jews and Israel. Indeed, the entry misrepresents Zionism as an "ideology of race" and scandalously promotes the canard of Zionist-Nazi "collaboration."

"The chapter is littered with serious errors and deliberate distortions," said Harris. "Yet it is presented to readers as an impartial and objective overview of Zionism in what purports to be a reference work."

The chapter may be read here.

I met Noel about two years ago when my wife Karin Friedemann arranged a gathering of Boston area One State supporters at our home with the aid of Roger Tucker. Later Noel lent us some copies of the magazine Race Traitor, which he edits. Shortly afterward we reintroduced Noel to one of his former students, who for a time rented some rooms from us and who later became his girlfriend.

I never imagined that the AJC would denounce Noel before it denounced me. Yet, here is the only note that the organization has taken of me.
AJC Weekly News, Update 306 congratulates Joachim Martillo for a perfect score on the AJC's May 28 history quiz.

Because I am an expert in Eastern European and Jewish studies, such a score is hardly surprising, and with my knowledged base certified by the AJC, I have to state that there is nothing wrong with Noel's encyclopedia entry except perhaps far too much generosity to Zionists. If I had written it, it would have been a good deal harsher on Zionism and the State of Israel.

Before German Nazism gave racism a bad name, most of the early Zionist leaders were overt racists. Max Nordau, who was second only to Herzl, developed Zionist eugenic theory and was probably at least as influential on German Nazism as he was on Zionism, which is ethnic Ashkenazi Nazism.

My JudoniaII document notes:
Martin Buber passed through an extreme German nationalist blood-and-soil phase, and his version of Zionism included all sorts of blood-based ideas (even though he himself was married to a German convert), and racist ideology remains pervasive in Israeli society.

Guy Grossman a representative from Ometz leSarev (Courage to Refuse, אומץ לסרב‎) – they are leftists that refuse to serve in the occupied territories – spoke at Harvard in April 2002. After his discussion about the injustice in the OT, I pointed out that I had heard his position over and over since Yeshayahu Leibowitz (ישעיהו ליבוביץ‎) visited Harvard in 1977. After each visiting speaker left, within a year conditions were always worse. I suggested that the issue was probably not the occupation but the core nature of Zionism, and he told me as well as the whole audience that he believed in Israel as a racist Jewish state.

[His NPR interview, which took place just before I talked with him, can be found at OnPoint Radio.]

Harris objects when Noel discusses the well documented Germann Nazi Zionist collaboration because any open discussion of the nature of Zionism and its connection to German Nazism might create doubts about the ethics of the US-Israel alliance and about the legitimacy of Zionist claims to Palestine.
