Nadia Abu El-Haj is actually an anthropology professor.

Most of her critics missed or are blurring this point. She is not presenting the results of archeological investigations. She is studying the anthropological dynamic of Israeli archeology and the role that archeology plays in Israeli societal self-conceptualization.

Generally, the groups that try to deny tenure are external to the universities where promotion of the targeted scholars is being considered.
