Rupert Murdoch, the Boston Herald and American Democratic Values

In terms of support for anti-racism, democracy and human rights outside the USA and especially for Palestinians, Arabs and Muslims, the Wall Street Journal editorial page has always been hideous in its support of Zionist aggression and criminality.

Could the Wall Street Journal under Rupert Murdoch be worse?

Quite probably because Murdoch, who routinely expresses his ideas on the editorial pages of papers that he owns, apparently does not have much interest in maintaining democratic values and practices within the United States of America.

The Boston Herald shows the anti-democratic tendency of Murdoch-owned media. Here is an example exchange with the paper's editorial staff.

Discussion welcome By Joachim Martillo/ Letters Tuesday, November 7, 2006

Herald editors showed unique understanding of democratic principles in the editorial Somerville ballot tricks (Nov. 4). How could patriotic Americans be anything but appalled that U.S. citizens might openly discuss and vote on aspects of America's relationship with Israel?

Somerville ballot tricks By Boston Herald editorial staff Saturday, November 4, 2006

An anti-Israel group has managed to put a question calling for sale of Israeli-related investments on the ballot in Somerville again this year. Even though this time it is non-binding and framed as an instruction to the state representative on how to vote on such a resolution for all state entities, the idea is still appalling.

The Somerville Divestment Project also has yet another non-binding resolution on the ballot, again cast as an instruction to the state rep, this time to vote for a non-binding resolution urging the federal government "to support the right of all refugees, including Palestinian refugees, to return to their land of origin."

This is a dreadful idea too. The return of the 1948 refugees and their descendants, about 3 million people, would swamp the Jewish state. Those who support this proposal surely know that.

Two years ago Mayor Joe Curtatone was eloquent in opposition to an unsuccessful mandatory divestment resolution aimed at the city government. He has not changed his mind.

"They do nothing to promote real dialogue, peace or justice either here in Somerville or in the Middle East," Curtatone said. "They represent a wasteful and inappropriate use of the ballot initiative system."

Well put. These questions should be defeated.

Maybe if it gets worse it will loose credibility with its readership. At what point is reality going to collide with these wacky right-wingers?

the links don't seem to work- i there somewhere where it's archived? Or another link?

The editorial and the letter have probably been moved to the permanent archive that readers must pay to access. I will see if I can find the current links.
