Karin places a strict limit of 800 words on herself in these columns, but one paragraph probably needed some more verbiage. She wrote:
The Christian Anti-Defamation Commission declared, “If we were to apply the same twisted logic of the SPLC to the SPLC, it would have to label itself as a hate group because they are intolerant of conservative Christians.” Similarly, Hussein Ibish, a secular Arab-American lobbyist, could be charged with inciting hate crimes targeting Muslims and political activists even though he has compiled statistics of anti-Arab hate crimes for the Arab-American Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC).Ibish has an obnoxious tendency to accuse Arab activists and religious Muslims of anti-Semitism in order to validate himself as the politically correct Arab-American spokesman. The following slight modification might have made the paragraph clearer but would have pushed the article to well over 800 words.
The Christian Anti-Defamation Commission declared, “If we were to apply the same twisted logic of the SPLC to the SPLC, it would have to label itself as a hate group because they are intolerant of conservative Christians.” Similarly, Hussein Ibish, a secular Arab American lobbyist could be charged for hate crimes targeting Islamic and anti-Zionist organizations because he has tried to enhance his credibility by balancing his compilation of statistics of hate crimes against Arabs for the Arab-American Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) with accusations of anti-Semitism against Muslim leaders and pro-Palestinian activists. In addition there are two issues worth noting that were somewhat beyond the scope of Karin's column.
1. While both the ADL and also the SPLC seem to scare-monger as much for fund-raising as for political purposes, Reporter Jack Nelson provides evidence in Terror in the Night of much more sinister ADL activities that included the manipulation of the FBI into attempt a targeted assassination of KKK hit man Thomas Tarrants III after synagogue bombings in 1967. Although the FBI failed to kill Tarrants, it managed to blow away his accomplice Kathleen Ainsworth.
