Constructing the Next Islamophobic Campaign

In Israel Advocacy Organizations Change Tactics I mention that Charles Jacobs recently resigned from his position as head of the David Project.

After following up that article by attending various Israel advocacy planning sessions in the Boston area, I have the impression that the organized Jewish community is becoming concerned with the efficacy of pro-Israel strong arm tactics in which the David Project, StandWithUs, CAMERA, and HonestReporting have specialized.

The effort "to diminish the impact of [potential] critics of Israel" by scare-mongering a false consensus through equation of Muslims with terrorists and through normalization of the exclusion of American Muslims from American political discussions looks more and more like a well-funded criminal conspiracy against rights.

For a long time the organized Jewish community has tried to delegitimize Muslim concerns about US Middle East policy by accusing Muslims of bringing foreign conflicts to the USA.

Yet the major concern of the organized Jewish community consists of supporting the State of Israel in every way possible.

Aaron Lansky mentions in Outwitting History that he initially had little success in finding funding to rescue potentially priceless collections of Yiddish literature because the organized Jewish community and wealthy donors were putting as much money as possible into supporting the State of Israel both with Israel lobbying within the American political system and also with Zionist education (indoctrination) for American Jews.

In other words the leadership of American Jews made a conscious decision to sacrifice Yiddish culture on behalf of foreign Zionist politics and conflict.

Israel advocates are desperately seeking a new Islamophobic tactic far less likely to blow up in their faces than their current repertoire.

Below is a recent letter from Charles Jacobs on the subject of a new Israel advocacy focus.

December 15, 2008 "Hello again," from Charles Jacobs Dear Frances, The last time I wrote to you in August, I explained that I was leaving the David Project to plan a separate but related effort. I'm not quite ready to formally announce the launch, but I want to share with you some of my thoughts and ask for your help. Over the last few years, I've become convinced that the greatest threat facing the Jewish people, indeed the entire civilized world, is Islamist radicalism. We've just seen Islamists hunt, torture and murder Jews in Mumbai. We see radical Islamist groups, Hamas and Hezbollah, redefine the Arab-Israel conflict, and we watch with alarm as Saudi Arabia and Iran become strategic and existential threats. What many do not realize is that a softer and more insidious form of Islamist extremism has been operating to undermine and threaten Western societies from within, and that Jewish communities are most vulnerable to this threat. Many understand the increasingly perilous situation of Jews in Europe, but few know about the organized effort to radicalize the moderate Muslim community in America. We must prevent the radicalization of American Muslims and we must educate the public about this new threat. This is my new focus. In Boston, we've seen this problem up close and personal: The David Project and several media outlets were sued by a Muslim group reported to have ties to extremist Islamist networks. The case was dropped but the lawsuit intimidated Boston's media. Since then, not one mainstream paper or TV station here alerted the public that Islamist radicals may have established a base in the heart of the city, and that some moderate Muslim institutions were being taken over by radicals. But three weeks ago, after months of research using data supplied by us and others, Boston's alternative paper, The Phoenix, broke through the media's self-imposed silence and published a 7,000 word cover story. "Menino's Mosque: the bizarre story behind the construction of Boston's most controversial building" vindicates much of what we had tried to communicate to the public. I've summarized it in a Jewish Advocate column, but I hope you read the entire article. There are not many people who are willing to address this problem but our new team of Christians, Muslims and Jews feels that we cannot simply sit by and allow this danger to grow unopposed. So we are determined to start here and now in Boston even though we understand that it's a tough economic time to launch a new effort. We are working with Boston's moderate Muslims, who are helping us document the radical Islamist penetration of their community. We're creating marketing and educational materials as well as an overall strategy of effectively communicating our message. We are building alliances with other groups around the country that share our concerns. Over the next weeks I'll be updating you on our progress. But now I need your help. Jacobs seems to be looking at three separate possible campaigns:

• to restart the controversy over the Roxbury Mosque,
• to smear Muslim charities (see Concerns raised about potentially fraudulent "Citizens Group" in Boston -- Citizens for Peace and Tolerance (CPT) is a David Project front that Jacobs set up during the campaign against the Roxbury Mosque), and
• to create the bogeyman of "stealth Islamist" subversion from which Jacobs' new organization will save "moderate Muslims" and all Americans.

Even though one or more of Jacobs' friends bought a lot of advertisements in the Boston Phoenix so that Jacobs' Islamophobic crew could place a defamatory article, a new anti-Mosque campaign has not succeeded in getting any traction.

The reason for such lack of success is fairly obvious. The Roxbury Mosque is simply innocuous. I have spent time there over the past few weeks. It has a nice exhibit for Black History Month on African American Islam since the early days of American slavery. Imam Faaruuq showed a PBS special on a related theme and the next week he showed a very nice animated cartoon feature called Muhammad, Seal of the Prophets, which was produced by the very pious very charitable Harithy family of Jiddah and which explains the early history of Islam in a format suitable for children.

In addition during the past few weeks, the Roxbury Mosque has held prayer services as well as Quran discussion sessions, and a youth group met. In short the Roxbury Mosque except for being Islamic in orientation hardly differs in any meaningful way from any of the other religious centers in the area.

The CPT Press Release flopped at least as badly as the Phoenix article.

Despite the best efforts of Jewish Zionist facilitators and gatekeepers in the media, most Americans are beginning to realize that the real terrorists in the Middle East are not the members of Hamas but are really the Zionist invaders, interlopers and thieves, who in their latest outrage rampaged through Gaza in an orgy of murdering women and children.

Because of the foregoing two failures of trial campaigns, Jacobs will probably resort -- as his letter indications -- to the old standby of murderous Jewish fanaticism: saving the gentiles from themselves. Jewish Bolshevism was such an effort that resulted in the slaughter of millions within the territory of the former Czarist Empire, that was a major contributing factor in the rise of Hitler, and that inspired hatred against Jews throughout the world with culmination in the Holocaust from 1942-1945. The blog entry Saudia in the Gun Sights discusses a recent effort at scare-mongering stealth Islamism at Harvard. Daniel Pipes and Yaron Brook provide some of current Islamophobic thinking while Charles Jacobs in the video segment of the fourth question focuses on some of the specifics.

So what is stealth Islamism? As far as I can tell, a stealth Islamist is a Muslim that voluntarily decides to obey the rules of Sharia rather as an Orthodox Jew might voluntarily observe Halakhah, objects to Zionist-dominated US ME policy, has no interest in the Jewish Zionist Holocaust cult, and genuinely worships a just, merciful and loving God. Someone like Bilqis Abdul-Qaadir, who was recently the subject of a front page story in the Boston Sunday Globe probably counts either as a stealth Islamist that Jacobs intends to target or as a potential Islamist that Jacobs intends to save by rewriting American Islam to Jewish Zionist specifications.

A campaign to save American Muslims and the USA from "stealth Islamism" serves the Israel advocacy agenda because Jewish Zionists can attack pro-Palestinian Muslims, who as stealth Islamists would constitute a purely local American problem. Through this subterfuge, Jewish Zionists intend to conceal their dual loyalties that drive them to subvert the Constitution as they bring the conflicts arising from Zionist genocidalism to American soil.

From a marketing standpoint a campaign against "stealth Islamism" is complex, but because Jacobs and his colleagues are backed by both the hyperwealthy Zionist political economic oligarchy and the Zionist intelligentsia, hysterical albeit potentially very deadly Islamophobic attacks on American and non-American Muslims will not stop either

• until they bring American Islam and Islam in general under Jewish Zionist domination in an ecumenical deal of the sort that Marc Ellis has discussed in describing the relationship between modern American Christianity and Judaism or
• until American Zionism is neutralized via a long term strategy to break the Zionist oligarcy and intelligentsia, to abolish the Zionist state, and to put Jacobs, Sheldon Adelson, the Krafts, Martin Peretz and their ilk in jail for seditious conspiracy and for aiding and abetting Zionist terrorism.
