Issues and Questions In the Historiography of Pre-State Zionism

The Failure of Jewish Studies in America
by Joachim Martillo (ThorsProvoni@aol.com)

I put up the lecture entitled Issues and Questions In the Historiography of Pre-State Zionism at http://www.eaazi.org/ThorsProvoni/history/naaplecture.htm . It does not address the distortion of the history of the Holocaust and of the Soviet Union in connection with Zionist historiography, but the material contained in this document is a useful starting point for understanding the Zionist indoctrination of Americans.

greetings Joachim

I spoke this evening w. an Ethiopian specialist and asked him about the following passage, his comments follow if they are useful to you.

The examples of Judean ritual and law that we find in Greco-Roman texts generally look far more like the earliest forms of Karaitism than like modern Rabbinical Judaism.

partly true

Nevertheless, the religion of the Ethiopian Beita Israel is probably far closer to the Greek language form of Judean practice during the Greco-Roman period than any other religion that exists today.

doubtful

Axum in Ethiopia created a unique form of Hellenistic culture translated into Ge`ez. Ethiopian Judean religion probably is a result of that cultural efflorescence.

true

Because it is not studied by students of Hellenistic Judean religion, who typically do not have the necessary linguistic skill set, a lot of important information is being lost as Israeli rabbinical authorities force the Ethiopians to assimilate to modern Rabbinical Jewish practices.

he believes this is inaccurate--he claims that the rabbinical council in Israel has recognized the falasha sect as legitimate judaism and that they are not being forced to assimilate he also claims that a great deal of documentary research is being done in Israel on the Falashas, their ritual and cult etc.

Personally I knew a Harvard professor who moved to the Hebrew University in jerusalem--a devout Orthodox jew--who maintained that the falashas were not jews but according to this source, the rabbinical council in Israel has held otherwise.

I'm putting this in with my favorites. I may need it in the future to defend myself. http://homo-sapien-underground.blogspot.com/2006/04/mel-announces-sequel-to-passionthe.html
