Followup: Jewish, Zionist War Against Salvation

Jewish Scholar Rejects Jewish Prejudice
by Joachim Martillo (ThorsProvoni@aol.com)

In a Feb. 28, 2008 opinion column entitled Catholics Have a Right To Pray for Us (see below), Jacob Neuser rejected the ongoing hysterical attack on Pope Benedict XVI's new revision of the Tridentine liturgy. (See Jewish, Zionist War Against Salvation.) Neusner makes the clever argument that Jews can hardly complain when non-Jews pray in the Good Friday service for enlightenment or conversion of Jews because Jews pray daily for future enlightenment or conversion of non-Jews.

While Neusner has a history of challenging naive or chauvinist beliefs about the development of Rabbinic Judaism, opposing Jewish prejudice that angers Roman Catholics looks similar to the possibly opportunistic criticism that Irving Kristol expressed of American Jewish church-state-separation extremism in On the Political Stupidity of American Jews

In a sort of damage control, Neoconservatives like Kristol and his son managed to use support for a pro-religion political agenda in opposition to the organized Jewish community as part of the basis for an alliance between Neoconservatism and right-wing evangelical fundamentalists.

If Neusner acts from genuine conviction and not simply from fear that Jewish bigotry might undermine the effectiveness of the concept of Judeo-Christian civilization as a rallying cry for anti-Muslim anti-Arab incitement, he would publicly condemn Daniel Pipes and similar racist Jewish Neoconservative Zionists, for they opportunistically demonize Islamic Sharia with full knowledge that Muslim religious law hardly differs in any significant way from Halakhah, which is its Jewish counterpart. (See Westerners must mount a united front against Islamic law.)

On Sharia law compared with the halakhah I edited several books of comparative law and theology. The Islam chapters were written by highly qualified scholars and treated Islam with utmost respect.

Three Faiths, One God. The Formative Faith and Practice of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam [With Bruce D. Chilton & William A. Graham.] Leiden and Boston, 2002: E. J. Brill.

Comparing Religions Through Law: Judaism and Islam. [With Tamara Sonn] London, 1999: Routledge. E-book edition, London, 2001: Taylor and Francis.

Judaism and Islam in Practice. A Source Book of the Classical Age. [With Tamara Sonn & Jonathan Brockopp] London, 2000: Routledge. E-book edition, London, 2001: Taylor and Francis.

William Graham did the Islam sections of THREE FAITHS and Tamara Sonn and Jonathan Brockopp did the Islam half of the other two titles.

Also I edited a number of books comparing Judaism Christianity Islam Buddhism and Hinduism on various shared topics of morality andd the social order and the Islam chapters were set forth with learning and respect.
