Halle Berry names baby

Is She an Arab?

[Halle Berry Biography says otherwise, but she gave her daugher an Arabic name, and in the Lebanese context it is hard to find a more Arabic female name than Halle Berry. "Nahla" (English h) sound does mean a swallow or a drink of water, but I think Nahla (Spanish j-sound or German ich-laut) is more common and means "bee" or possibly "slender."  The name "Nakhla" means date palm.]

Halle Berry Names Baby Girl

The bouncing genetic lottery winner of Halle Berry and her boyfriend, Gabriel Aubry, officially has a name.

The Oscar winner's rep confirms to Us that the prepossessing couple has dubbed their little girl Nahla Ariela Aubry.

Nahla is an Arabic-based name that means, "drink of water," which is fitting given that her model-father has often been described as a tall one of those.

The pair's little thirst quencher reportedly made her debut on Sunday morning in Los Angeles, tipping the scales at 7 pounds, 4 ounces.

The moniker was apparently a last-minute decision for Halle, 41, and Gabriel, 32, who met in late 2005 while shooting a Versace ad together.

"We didn't have a name picked out until just before we left the hospital," the actress reveals to "Access Hollywood." "For us, it was hard to name the most important person in our life until we met her."

Aubry's family is eager to meet the newest addition to their expansive clan (the square-jawed Canadian looker has eight siblings).

"It's been a long time since we've had a new baby in the family," his sister gushes to People. "It's very exciting."

I don't know anything about Halle Berry. The name is familiar. Is she a famous actress? I know she is some kind of mainstream celebrity. How is this story noteworthy for anti-imperialist activists?

I sent out the article as a break from more depressing matters.

Yet, I am curious whether she might have fabricated a false biography in order to make it in Hollywood because there is so much entrenched prejudice against Arabs.
