نجد (Najd) and שְׂדֵרוֹת (Sderot)

The 700 residents of the Palestinian village of Najd were forcefully expelled on May 13, 1948, by the Negev Brigade. The Negev Brigade was formed from 4 Palmach/Haganah battalions.

Jewish settlers destroyed the village of Najd in 1951 and built the settlement they call Sderot there. [Sderot, which means ranks (of soldiers), may be so named because najd is cognate with Hebrew neged and has connotations of confrontation or fighter.]

There are now thousands of Palestinian refugees with origins in Najd. They are the rightful owners and inhabitants of the land there.
